15 Meat & Meat Free Southern Recipes We Love

If you listened to our fourth episode of Wicked Huercas "An Ode to the Chicken Biscuit", we talked about some of our top favorite Southern foods we grew up with. If you haven't, we 100% recommend you listen to it first. It's available anywhere you get your podcasts, including Spotify, Apple, Youtube, the Podbean App, and even here, our website!

Below are both carnivore and plant-based recipes for the foods discussed in the episode. Yes, we got you, non-meat eaters, we understand your pain.

At the beginning of the episode, Dulce shares her experience with the classic peanut butter and banana sandwich. This one is easy, peanut butter, banana, bread, maybe honey, maybe toasted, and you're golden, so no need for a fancy recipe.

Don't knock it 'till you try it, but did you know good 'ole Elvis loved this sandwich, also? He apparently loved to have the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich at The Arcade, Memphis, Tennessee's oldest cafe. You can even sit in the same booth where he used to sit and have the sandwich for yourself if that's your kind of thing.

Now let's get going with an appetizer and snack- what Dulce & Ceci call "Christmas Crackers", but apparently, are called firecrackers. They're the perfect balance between crunchy, spicy, and salty.

Ceci shares a story of the first time she ever tried sausage balls, and has mastered the recipe but needs a meat alternative.

Let's start with the carnivore options - that frankly look mouthwatering.
