Day Drinking Around Jalisco, Mexico

.....this is your shot to have a shot in the birthplace of tequila! (the joke writes itself, okay)

Tequila is a drink that I have learned to love, not only because of its richness in taste but also the history it has within Mexican culture. Thankfully my palette has improved from the cheap vanilla vodka and Sonic-orange Fanta college days to a nice, smooth tequila with lime and maybe a little something sweet. Yet- there are some tequilas that are best enjoyed in their purity, and what better place to enjoy it than in the birthplace of the drink, Jalisco, Mexico! Below are some activities that you can (responsibly) partake in in the beautiful town of Tequila, and an extra special spot that is a MUST try only an hour away!

First, I want to highlight a spot that is actually not in Tequila, but an hour away in Tlajomulco de Zuñiga, another beautiful but less well-known town. Here you will find this local, smaller-scale distillery with ALL types of various tequilas. You can do a tasting and have some of their.....

various flavored tequilas, from coconut to chocolate!

Rows and rows of tequila to choose from.

I opted for the Jamaica (hibiscus) flavored ( I know, DELICIOUS) and their signature extra añejo (extra aged) tequila which was possibly one of the best drinks I have ever had.

and aren't their bottles beautifully designed? Totally going to use them as decoration. Sadly, it is impossible to buy all their tequilas - though you could try- but you can take lots of pictures!

I rate this experience a 10/10 must recommend it, and it's not because I had a few too many drinks.

Alright, here's what you've been waiting for. Yes, in case you didn't know, Tequila is an actual town in Mexico and its birthplace. The drink was named after the town, and not the other way around. No, I will not tell you all the history because you need to go experience it for yourself! Where you may ask?

Town of Tequila, Mexico.

Well, you can head to the National Museum of Tequila and learn about its origin, its rise to popularity outside of Mexico, and its cultural impact.

Address: José Cuervo 33, Centro, 46400 Tequila, Jal., Mexico

Going to the Jose Cuervo Distillery is one of those must do's when in Tequila, especially since it is the oldest distillery in Latin America. You can take a tour and even take a tequila train ride.

Yes, they have their one cuervo. In case you didn't know, cuervo means crow.

Cantaritos in downton Tequila, Mexico.

Once you're done with all the learning you can head to the center of it all to drink your weight in cantaritos full of tequila and squirt and honestly whatever else you'd like you to put in your happy little body. There's banda and Mariachis and dancing and food till you can't eat anymore and honestly why aren't we there right now?

...and are you even in a pueblo magico if you don't have a hat? You have to buy a hat.

I think I can agree with this little girl in the video.
