7 Places to Visit on Your First Trip to Mexico City

Mexico City Airport

Alright, before you read this list and think "so touristy", read the title again. These are not to miss sights that we captured on our long weekend trip to Mexico City and think that they are worth the hype. I'm not one for long introductions so let's get to it!

Bellas Artes & Cafe Don Porfirio

Don Porfirio Cafe at the Sears in Mexico City, Mexico

Here's a two-in-one for ya. Palacio de Bellas Artes (the building in the picture) is a cultural center and the most famous performance venue in the city. It holds concerts, theatre shows, and artistic exhibitions, among other things. Famous people like my personal fave, Juan Gabriel, have had stellar performances there. If you haven't watched his concerts at Bellas Artes, seriously watch them after reading this blog. It's so good! If you'd like to get a better view of this magnificent building and what's around it, head to the Sears across the street.

Yup, you heard me, the Sears, like where your mom bought your Bobby Jack Monkey shirts 12 years ago. This was one of the nicest Sears I had ever seen, and right on the highest floor is a rooftop cafe named Don Porfirio. Here you can have drinks, pastries, and small bites while enjoying the view.

If you'd like to walk off the pastries and get some nature, just a couple steps away from both of these stops is Alameda Central park, the city's oldest public park.

Only a few steps from Bellas Artes is Palacio de Correos, possibly the most grandeur post office you will ever see.

Built in 1907, the architecture, from the staircase to the paintings, is worth spending a few hours just looking around and imagining all the letters that have gone through there and continue to do so, as it is still a working post office.

This enormous park is a must-do for several reasons. Let's start with the fact that it is huge, considering it is one of the largest parks in North America and double the size of Central Park in NYC.

Divided into three sections, this park has EVERYTHING: fountains, vendors of all kinds, bikes to rent, playgrounds, restaurants, gardens, a zoo, a skate park....
